When an object elevator fails it’s inspection an
Affirmation of Correction is required. Once the failing violations have
been corrected, a licensed professional must sign off on the Affirmation
of Correction and it is filed with the Maintenance Department of Buildings
within a set amount of days from the initial inspection- usually within
45 days.
Now, let’s talk about elevators only.
When your elevator is inspected, you have 45 calendar days from the
inspection date to file it. If -if- it fails, you then have 45 business
days from the date of filing, to make the corrections and file the
Affirmation of Correction with the DOB.
With me so far?
Inspection. File within 45 days. If you failed, 45 additional days to correct and file again.

If you failed your elevator inspection in, say, 2010, and you never
filed the affirmation of corrected (you might have made the repairs- but
that’s only half the battle here) with the Department of Buildings –
your 2012 inspection will be rejected.
That’s not too good, is it?
Final Recap:
2010 inspection. Failed. Filed within 45 days. No affirmation of correction filed. 2012 inspection rejected.
You cannot move forward with deficiencies in the past.
From now on, your elevator past must be spotless- corrected and fully filed if need be.
